WORKPLACE WELLNESS: THE IMPORTANCE OF ‘MANAGEMENT 101’

The Navigating Workplace Wellness project is all about helping small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) meet their compliance obligations when it comes to managing mental health in the workplace (both in the prevention space and after someone has indicated that they are suffering from a mental health condition and wish to remain in or return to the workplace).

However, what has become increasingly apparent to us is that the focus can’t just be simply on the law, whether that be work health and safety (WHS) law, workers’ compensation law, discrimination law or any other type of law that applies to workplace wellness.

It should go without saying that everyone needs to be mindful of the fact that workers (and I’m including business owners in this description) are human beings (not robots). Therefore, a very important piece of this puzzle relates to the management of people (or, as we prefer to call it, ‘Management 101’), and by ‘people’ we’re including yourselves, the business owner, as well as others.

Fortunately, the WHS laws already incorporate an obligation on individuals to take care (at different levels) of themselves as well as others, the only problem is that it’s not very clear on how (apart from the obvious) they can do this.

That is why we have recorded a number of webinars on the Management 101 topics of:

You will see that these topics form the foundation of our WHS ‘Safety Staircase’ (our way of explaining the WHS risk management process).

You can download a catalogue of these webinars to help you figure out which ones you want to watch first.

Although we have recorded a few webinars on each of these topics, SafeWork NSW has commissioned workplace mental health training and coaching programs for SMEs, but hurry, because these are concluding on 30 September 2026 and you need to register before 31 August 2026!!!

We will find out whether SafeWork NSW will be making other types of mental health training & coaching available after 30 September 2026 & will keep you posted!

In the meantime, hurry and register before 31 August to attend one or more sessions before they end on 30 September 2026!
