Navigating Workplace Wellness – Why water?

The project

We were told there would be a ‘tsunami’ of mental health claims flowing into the workers’ compensation system due to NSW businesses not properly complying with NSW’s WHS and workers’ compensation laws.

For this project, we wanted to tap into this messaging but in a way that illustrates that the ‘wave’, instead of being a tsunami, is simply a metaphor for the journey through health and wellness.

By combining illustrated and real-life photos of waves, we show how challenges start rough and turbulent, but gradually calm as we learn to navigate them.

Each stage of the program, from prevention to community support, is represented by the changing ocean – capturing the journey from difficulty to control and balance.

Year 1: Prevention

The journey begins with a rough, tumultuous ocean. The large, heavy waves symbolise the initial challenges of prevention. This stage represents the uncertainty and overwhelming nature of confronting health risks head-on.

Year 2: Injury management

By the second year, the waves have subsided slightly, though they still pose challenges. This stage reflects a period of managing injuries – still difficult, but more manageable as we develop strategies and resilience to handle the obstacles.

Year 3: Community and public health support

In the third year, the ocean has become much calmer, symbolising a time of greater stability. With the support of community and public health resources, navigating health challenges becomes smoother, as individuals have learned to ride the waves with confidence and ease.

We hope you enjoy taking this ‘Navigating Workplace Wellness’ journey with us!
